What is a GST Calculator?

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is India's unified indirect tax system implemented in July 2017, replacing dozens of state and central taxes. GST applies to almost all goods and services in India at rates of 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%.

Whether you are a business owner calculating GST to charge customers, a freelancer adding GST to invoices, or a consumer checking if GST is included in a quoted price — our calculator handles both types: adding GST to a base price (exclusive) and extracting GST from an all-inclusive price (inclusive).

How is it calculated?

GST exclusive (adding GST to base price):
• GST amount = Base price × GST rate
• Final price = Base price + GST amount
• CGST = GST amount ÷ 2 (intra-state)
• SGST = GST amount ÷ 2 (intra-state)
• IGST = GST amount (inter-state)

GST inclusive (extracting GST from all-inclusive price):
• Base price = All-inclusive price ÷ (1 + GST rate)
• GST amount = All-inclusive price − Base price

Common GST rates: 5% (essential items, economy hotels), 12% (processed food, phones), 18% (most services, electronics), 28% (luxury goods, cars, cigarettes)

How to use this calculator

Frequently asked questions

What is the GST rate on services?
Most services (consulting, IT, financial, legal, marketing) attract 18% GST. Essential services like healthcare, education, and public transport are exempt or at 5%. Restaurants charge 5% GST (without ITC) for non-AC and 5% for AC restaurants.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?
For intra-state transactions (buyer and seller in same state), GST is split equally between CGST (Central) and SGST (State). For inter-state transactions, only IGST (Integrated) applies, which is the full GST amount collected by the Centre and then distributed to states.
Do I need GST registration?
Mandatory if annual turnover exceeds ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh for special category states) for services, or ₹40 lakh for goods. Also mandatory for e-commerce sellers regardless of turnover. Voluntary registration is beneficial to claim input tax credit.
